You Don’t Have to Earn God’s Love: Nick Hall on Breaking Free From Striving
What if you stopped trying to prove that you’re enough—and simply received the love God has already given you?
In this impactful and deeply vulnerable conversation, Reagan sits down with Nick Hall, founder and president of Pulse Ministries, to talk about something many Christians quietly struggle with: knowing that God loves you intellectually, but having a hard time actually receiving His love.
Nick shares his incredible journey of following Jesus from childhood, surrendering his life to ministry at 18, working alongside some of the most influential evangelists of our time—and yet spending years believing that his worth was connected to what he could accomplish.
For years, Nick lived with a “try harder” mentality. His identity became tied to achievement, approval, ministry, and being the person everyone could count on. Even while preaching about the love of God to thousands, he struggled to feel that love for himself.
After years of painful seasons, loss, exhaustion, and what he describes as God “undoing” him, Nick began to discover a different way to live: not striving for God's approval, but resting in God's delight.
They talk about:
Why high achievers can struggle to receive God's love
The difference between doing for God and abiding with God
What happens when your identity becomes tied to performance
Breaking free from the cycle of striving, exhaustion, and burnout
Learning to be comfortable simply being God's beloved son or daughter
Why vulnerability and confession should be normal parts of Christian life
The importance of having people who can speak truth and encouragement into your life
Why leaders need people who minister to them, not just people they minister to
Finding healthy community, mentors, accountability, and prayer
How receiving God's love can transform your family and relationships
Breaking generational patterns of performance and approval
Why God's kindness is an invitation, not condemnation
Learning to slow down enough to actually experience God's presence
One of the most powerful moments comes when Nick remembers being in his garage during the pandemic, covered in sawdust, and realizing that he was experiencing God's love in a way he had never experienced it on a stage or at a major ministry event.
As Nick says, “The aim is…let's not forget where our power comes from.”
If you've ever felt like you have to do more, accomplish more, serve more, or prove yourself to be enough, this conversation is for you.
You are not what you do. You are God's beloved.
